Onderstepoort]. vet. Res. 37 (1), 1-6 (1970). Eviden~e is l?ut [orward showing that continuous excessive intakes of magnesium sulphate by sheep, for example m dnnkmg water, may result in losses of calcium from the body. However, when the intakes of both these minerals are greater than requirements the depressive effect on calcium may be overcome. Si~ce there is a clos~ relationship between calcium and phosphorus metabolism any factor having a depressive effect on calciUm may eventually affect phosphorus utilization.

Effect of various chlorides and calcium carbonate on calcium, phosphorus, sodium, potassium and chloride balance and their relationship to urinary calculi in lambs.
V ARIOUS salts have been used in ruminant rations in attempts to reduce the incidence of urinary calculi. Bushman et al. (1967) have recently reported on the relative effectiveness of ammonium chloride, calcium chloride, sodium chloride and calcium carbonate. Also, a protective effect against phosphatic urolithiasis has been assigned to dietary potassium by Robbins et al. (1965). Crookshank (19...

Sheep were used to determine the effects of dietary supplementation with readily-fermentable carbohydrates on Mg, Ca, K and P utilization. In each of two metabolism trials, 15 mature, crossbred wethers (average weight, 49.2 kg) were allotted to five dietary treatments consisting of 800 g/d of orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerata, L.) hay alone, or supplemented with 450 g/d of either glucose, sucros...
متن کاملVariation in absorption and excretion of calcium in grazing sheep in a semi-arid grazing ranch, Punjab, Pakistan
The calcium status of lactating, non-lactating, and male sheep on farm in southwestern Punjab, Pakistan was studied. Pasture and animal were sampled at the end of the first month of summer and winter. All samplings were carried out fortnightly. A mineral supplement was available to all animals throughout the year. Plasma calcium in all animals was not affected by the physiologic state and gende...

1. Statistical analyses were carried out on results obtained under strictly-controlled conditions in metabolism stalls with forty-one different rations fed to 127 adult non-pregnant dry cows, and with fourteen other different rations fed to thirty-five adult non-pregnant lactating cows that had calved 2-6 months earlier and whose daily milk production ranged from 11 to 20 kg. 2. Correlations be...
متن کاملBroiler Performance in Response to Phytate and Supplemented Phytase
Phosphorus (P) is a macro mineral in broiler nutrition. In growing broilers, besides its requirement for proper bone development, it is also involved in almost all metabolic processes. Poor P availability results in decreased productivity and poor health status.Phosphorus availability from plant derived feeds is affected by an anti-nutritional factor “phytate”, which forms a variety of insolubl...
